Gruyère cheese

Gruyère cheese is generally known as one of the finest cheeses for baking, having a distinctive but not overpowering taste. It is the only cheese that has won the title of best cheese of the world at the World Cheese Awards in London four times: in 1992, 2002, 2005 and 2006. It is produced in 185 cheese factories and 51 Alpine farms. We visited one of the factories which located directly at the train station. Production finishes at 15.30 but it is still possible to visit. There is a museum showing the history and the story of the cheese produced there as well as a shop, selling regional specialities besides cheese and a restaurant. Audioguide is also available.

If you have more time and interest you can take the cheese factory path, visiting more production places.
